Fundraising to support children affected by disaster in Nepal

Together with Build Up Nepal and Tuki Nepal, School For All is raising funds to build temporary classrooms that can also provide safe shelter for families affected by the disaster.

Entire villages and communities were washed away or buried in mud.

On the morning of 26 August 2026, part of a glacier and a mountainside high in the Himalayas collapsed, sending an enormous mass of ice, rock and earth into the river system and triggering devastating floods downstream.

Entire villages and communities were washed away or buried in mud. Roads and bridges disappeared, and hundreds of people have lost their lives, while many more remain missing. Rescue and search operations are still continuing.

For children living in the affected areas, the situation is particularly difficult. Many families have lost their homes, while schools have been destroyed or are no longer safe to use. Without a safe place to learn, children are also at greater risk of dropping out of school.

School For All has joined forces with Build Up Nepal and Tuki Nepal to support the response.

Our immediate focus is to raise funds to build temporary classrooms in safe locations. These classrooms will give children a safe place to return to and help restore some normality to their lives while their communities recover.

The temporary classrooms can also serve a wider purpose. In an emergency, they can be used as spaces for shelter, clean water, hot meals and other essential support.

This is more than rebuilding classrooms

Build Up Nepal has worked with communities across Nepal for the past decade, including after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Some of the areas affected by the current disaster are communities where Build Up Nepal previously supported reconstruction.

The current disaster is another reminder of the increasing risks faced by communities in the Himalayas. Glacial floods, landslides and extreme weather events are becoming an increasingly serious threat, leaving communities with very little time to respond.

But right now, the priority is simple: help people who have lost their homes and give children a safe place to learn.

Recovery will take years, not months. This fundraising campaign is one small but practical way for us to support the communities affected.
